Summer of Renewal
The Rowdy Ridge Gang Camp has long been a place where children and families heal past hurts, getaway to a new healthy environment, are surrounded by love and support and rekindle the sense of wonder they may have lost. For many the week at Rowdy Ridge is like no other experience they have ever known. It's not an exaggeration to say that Rowdy Ridge is transformative. In effect, the families who come to camp find that their spirits are wholly renewed and leave The Ridge with a strong sense of purpose, peace, happiness and possibility. We recognize this phenomenon to be a renewal. This summer we will strive to ensure that The Summer of Renewal 2010 brings with it all that the theme implies and promises. Like the caterpillar that transforms into a beautiful butterfly, we endeavor to create an environment where our
campers likewise can transform and renew their lives.
Summer 2010 “Summer of Renewal” will mark our 17th consecutive season of summer camp. First piloted with two one-week sessions in 1994, the Scott Newman Center continues to operate The Rowdy Ridge Gang Camp, a unique experience for families in recovery from the affects of drug addiction and/or are the victims of domestic violence. In 1994, Rowdy Ridge served less than 30 families; this past summer we served over 200 families, totaling over 500 children and mothers. Many South Bay and Los Angeles area based social service agencies participate by sending their clients to Rowdy Ridge. The Rowdy Ridge has been honored by the American Camp Association with its highest and most prestigious award, The Eleanor P. Eells Award for Program Excellence. >>more
