The second annual RAT Beach Bike Tour will be held
Saturday, September 24, 2011
The ride starts and ends atop Torrance Beach overlooking one of the
most beautiful coastlines in the world. Last year's ride offered perfect
weather for a prefect day of riding. There will be a Metric Century (62
miles), a Metric Half Century (31 Miles) and a Metric Quarter Century (15.5
miles)-three great rides to choose from, starting from the cliffs
overlooking Torrance Beach and the Pacific Ocean.
This is first and only bike ride in the beautiful South Bay. Your entry fee
will help support the Pediatric Therapy Network, The Scott Newman Center,
and the ARC-South Bay, plus the many other charities supported by the South
Bay Sunrise Rotary Club. |

SUMMER OF STRENGTH 2011
The Rowdy Ridge Gang Camp has long been a very special place where children and families heal past hurts and discover a whole new world of wonder, joy and opportunity. Many of the children and parents that come to our unique camp rekindle their sense of family, something that for many seemed all but lost.
A week at Rowdy Ridge is like no other experience these families have ever known. It’s not an exaggeration to state that the experience is truly transformative. In effect, the families that come to camp find that their sprits are wholly renewed and they leave the Ridge with a sense of possibility, purpose, inner peace and strength.
This year we will celebrate that newfound strength by dubbing this upcoming season, “Summer of Strength” and remaining committed to helping our camp families become and grow stronger. The word “strength” can be defined in a number of ways, including the quality or state of being strong, the capacity for exertion or endurance, the power to resist force or the power of resisting attack. The list goes on and on. Suffice to say that the capacity to posses and exude strength can be critical in the survival of a species, community, family and individual. At Rowdy Ridge this summer it will be our intention to help our campers cultivate their own untapped inner and outer strength as a way of helping them become healthier, happier and more successful.
Rowdy Ridge has come a long way since our first “mini” season originally piloted in 1994 with a handful of campers into a summer long program that serves over 500 children and parents.
Summer 2011 will mark our 18th consecutive season of camp at Rowdy Ridge. Paul Newman was a huge champion of camp because he recognized its tremendous healing power. We will continue to honor his legacy by serving hundreds more children and families this summer and beyond. |
